Planting a Greener Future in Batticaloa

The Rotary Club of Batticaloa of Rotary District 3220 has proudly organized a tree-planting initiative at the newly opened Batticaloa Public Library, marking the beginning of a meaningful journey towards a greener and more sustainable community.

As part of Phase 1 of the development, the Club has committed to planting 60 trees, a meaningful investment towards greener, healthier, and more resilient communities amid growing climate challenges, including the impacts associated with El Niño.

The initiative was graced by the participation of the Mayor of Batticaloa Municipal Council, Hon. Sivan Packiyanathan, together with Rotary District 3220 District Governor Kumar Sundararaj the District team, Rotarians, and community members.

Their collective presence reflects the strength of partnership between Rotary, local leadership, and the community. This is more than planting trees, it is about creating healthier public spaces, building climate resilience, and leaving a lasting legacy for the people of Batticaloa.

Our appreciation to the President of RC Batticaloa Dr. Sukunan Gunasingam, the members of the club, officers of Municipal Council and everyone who joined hands to make this important initiative possible.

60 trees today. A greener Batticaloa tomorrow.
