A distinguished entrepreneur, humanitarian, community leader, and dedicated Rotarian, Kumar Sundararaj brings to this role a lifetime of leadership, service, and commitment to creating opportunities for others.
Born in 1970, his journey has been shaped by resilience, integrity, and a passion for excellence. A proud alumnus of Edith Cowen University, Australia, with a Master of Business Administration and extensive business experience, he has successfully led and developed several enterprises, including Kish International, Kish Laboratories, Kish Properties, Savannah Impex-India, and Savannah Restaurant.
Through visionary leadership, innovation, and a commitment to quality, he has earned the respect of colleagues, business partners, and industry leaders alike.
Yet beyond professional success, Kumar has always believed that true leadership is measured by the positive impact we make in the lives of others. This belief has guided his commitment to humanitarian service and community development.
Through the Sundararaj Foundation and numerous social initiatives, he has worked to uplift communities, expand educational opportunities, and support those in need, reflecting a deep conviction that every individual deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential.
One of the initiatives closest to his heart is the project ‘Sharp Eyes Learn Better’. Guided by the belief that no child should be disadvantaged in education due to an undetected vision problem, this initiative focuses on vision screening and the provision of prescribed spectacles to school children.
His commitment to service found a greater purpose when he joined the Rotary Club of Colombo Mid City in 2002. What began as an opportunity to serve soon became a lifelong journey. With over two decades of service in Rotary, Kumar has held several distinguished leadership roles at club, district, and international levels. These include serving as President of the Rotary Club of Colombo Mid City (2006–2007) and District Secretary (2022–2023), along with other key district positions, contributing significantly to membership development, leadership training, district administration, strategic planning, and service initiatives.
Respected for his ability to unite people, inspire collaboration, and lead by example, he has become a trusted mentor, friend, and leader to many Rotarians throughout District 3220.
Beyond Rotary and business, Kumar is a man of discipline, determination, and diverse interests. A proud member of the Sri Lanka Off Road Club and an accomplished shooting champion, he embraces challenges with focus and perseverance—qualities that continue to define his leadership journey.
At the center of his success stands a devoted family whose love and support have been a constant source of strength. His wife, Shanthala, his children, Sanchala and Kishan, and his grandson Sharnirsh have shared and supported his commitment to service throughout the years.
Alongside family, his close circle of friends, business associates, and fellow Rotarians have been an integral part of his journey, reflecting the relationships and fellowship he values deeply.
As District Governor of Rotary International District 3220, Kumar Sundararaj assumes leadership with a vision to strengthen clubs, empower leaders, expand humanitarian service, and deepen Rotary’s impact across Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
